French braid variation by Pat for a friend

I tried to rotate this, but now can't fix it.  Anyway, this one is huge!  Had to quilt and edge to edge design on my big machine, so a limited design choice, but I still love the Tangles panto that I have loved for a long time.  Quilted with a dark grey thread to match the borders.  Another stunner from Pat!

 

For Texas niece by Pat

Carol has made this pattern before, but I don't think she was happy with how this turned out.  However, when she picked it up, she was quite pleased with how the quilting enhanced it. 

 The quilting is called "Chevron Modern", and I am excited to use it again myself.

Two from Pat

A wedding quilt because if there is ever a celebration in Pat's world, a quilt must be made for it.  She is so very generous.  Quilted with and edge to edge design of a swirls.

"Haliakala" is what Pat's son said that this reminded him of, so this will go to them.

 

"Medallion" by Pat

 

Pat tells me that this quilt is circa 1990's a Jenny Byer pattern made with templates.  Pat pointed out to me that this is a medallion quilt and then pretty much turned me loose.  I did suggest wool batting to allow the quilting to really show,

I started out by basting the entire quilt together so that I could move it back and forth on the machine without risk of wrinkles.  Then I SID around each block.  Once that was done I quilted different designs in the blocks, but still had all that background to fill.  I ended up taking several photos and had them blown up by a blueprint company, so that I could draw my ideas on a much larger scale.  Once I knew what I wanted to do, I got one more large paper pattern made of the star block below.  Then traced that onto the quilt top, and quilted the "star" using rulers  Each section of the star was quilted individually with feathers, and the background of the quilt was quilted with rulers and meandering feathers.

Clearly pat was pleased when she picked it up, and then sent me a text stating that the quilt was "out of this world."  I'm so pleased!  I had such a good time working on this quilt!

"Meg's baby quilt" by Pat

Pat is going to be a grandma!  So of course the new baby to be needs a quilt.  Pat's daughter Meg chose the pattern, and liked the quilting on the pattern so much that this is what she requested for her quilt  So, parallel lines around every other block  Very geometric.

 

"For Amy" by Pat

 Pat is one of the most caring people I know.  She had a friend in high school, and finished this quilt for them.  She's used the pattern before, but in different colors.  I love how this gives it a different feel.  Very calming to me.

"Art deco" by Pat

I cannot recall the correct title of this pattern, but when Pat opened it up, my first thought was Art Deco.  This led  us to choose the "Clam Glam" panto, which shows up perfectly on the back of the quilt.  So much fun to watch this come to life on my machine.

 

"Whales" by Pat

There's a new baby coming to Pat's family, and the family requested a "Nautical themed" quilt.  Pat went through her stash and found whales, shells, fish and some other coordinates to come up with this great design.  Quilted with the "Whales" panto, which ties it all together perfectly.

 

Pat's 2 year BOM

I think that it took Pat 2 years to complete this quilt top. but will need to confirm that with her.  She showed it to me when it was in progress and said she wasn't that happy with it.

Once she had completed the top, and brought it to me for quilting, I drew a quick sketch on the back of her check in sheet in regards to how to quilt it.  Difficult to see because the thread matches the green background flowers so well, but I'm very pleased.  I hope she will be as well!

 

Flag wall hanging by Pat

 This is a small wall hanging made by Pat for a friend who served in our military, specifically in Afghanistan.  Thank you sir for your service.

Batik baby quilt by Pat

This is for a future baby who's mother is a friend of Pat's daughter.  Gotta love Pat, every wedding, every new baby, whatever the occasion, she makes a quilt for them.

I love the little hedgehogs on the backing!

 

Appliqued flowers for Judith, Pat's hairdresser

I didn't realize how large these flowers are until I had it finished to hang up for photos.  Wow.  That's a lot of petals to stitch down.  Each one was cut out of two pieces of fabric, stitched wrong sides together, then turned inside out to get nice points.  Then machine stitched onto the background

This is for Pat's hairdresser, and each of the background fabrics have some meaning for her.  Sewing patterns, a dictionary, music notes and scissors.  Quilted with a background fill of meandering spiral waves and veins in the petals of the flowers.

 

"Wedding quilt" by Pat

Pat is so amazing that she keeps in touch with so many people from her past.  This for a friend of her son's who is getting married in August. A wedding quilt for the happy couple.

 She has made this pattern in the past, but with different fabrics, and "Avocado" quilting design gives it a new look

Wedding quilt for Mason by Pat

What a lovely quilt, called "Love Links" made for Mason and his bride to be by Pat.  The bride prefers darker colors, so I love the dark background

Quilted with Oriental cloud panto since one of the couple is of Asian heritage.  Love how the dark blue thread just blends into the background

 

"Sasquatch" baby quilt by Pat

Well why not Sasquatch on a baby quilt?  The parents to be are very outdoorsy, hence the mushroom print for the background fabric.  I had the design, showed it to Pat and she loved it.

Going by his other name, Bigfoot, and planted perfectly in the white.

 And hiding in the border.  Too fun!

"Quilt for husband-Jim" by Pat

As with most quilts, this one has a story.  Pat made a quilt for a couple, but it seems that the wife decided that that quilt was "hers", and asked Pat to make another for the husband, Jim.  This is his quilt.  Love the bold and graphic design.

That's a lot of flying geese for Pat to piece.  Quilted with a computerized design called "Vanilla Cream"

 

"Asian fabrics for Michael"

Pat is one of the most giving people I know.  This quilt is for a former student of hers that she keeps in contact with.  He is going through some hard times, and Pat decided that he needed a quilt, so she whipped this out for him.  Lovely Asian fabrics and a pattern that she had used and enjoyed before. 

Quilted with the Asian Flow panto and I believe Butterscotch thread, so a soft gold.  A little color, but mostly texture.    I hope things get better for Michael soon.

"For Neighbor" by Pat

Pat is one of the most giving people I know.  Always making quilts for people to celebrate or to help offer comfort.   This one is for a neighbor of hers, and I love the pattern!

She told me that "This is the top", and I carefully marked it because it looked upside down to me.  Once I saw the full quilt I figured out that they are all vines growing from the bottom up, and then getting more sparse at the top than at the bottom.  Of course!

Quilted with a leafy vine design because what else could we use on this quilt?  Lovely as alwasys.
 

Pat's wallhaning part 2

 Pat gave her son and daughter in law their wall hanging and while I'm sure they loved it, they asked if I could add more quilting in either end in gold thread.

It needed to be a slightly larger circle design than I had a ruler for, so I marked the outer edge with chalk, and I can still see that in this photo.  Must tell Pat to wash that off, and wonder why I didn't.  Pat loved it, I hope they recipients do as well.

 Here is a wall hanging from Pat that she made for her son.  Very modern, so very simplistic quilting.  SID on the blue, and curves on the gold
