2 more for Christmas from Mary Beth

 

Last year, Mary Beth made quilts for all the grandkids.  This year, her children will get their own.  This one I'm calling "Spring Dreams" the name of the panto that she chose for it.   The colors are so soft, and the fabric has a lovely hand as well.

And a Rail Fence for her son.  Quilted with the "Double Diamond Cat design that she chose  Clearly, I'm going to need to use this one again.

Sherri's quilt for her grand-daughter

Sherri pieced this quilt for her lucky granddaughter.  I love the soft colors.  Quilted with pale green thread and the "bean Sprout" panto.  Sherri will finish the binding by hand.  Nice work!

 

Pink 9 Patch by Judy

 I seem to be having a collection of scrap quilts going through my studio right now and I love it!  This one is so soft in pastels, but primarily pink for Judy's grand-daughter.

"Lanterns" by me

 This one has been in the works for a long time.  Way, way back when I was in high school, I met my dear friend Ursi when she was an exchange student from Austria.  We've kept in touch through the years, and when her daughter Magdi was married this pas summer, I knew I had to make a quilt to celebrate that event.  Fast forward months, and I finally find the right pattern.  Then more months go by before knuckling down and just making the darn thing!  I cheated, grabbed a jelly roll off the shelf that has been staring at me for at least 10 years.  Stitched and done, and mailed to Europe.  Funny story.  When someone was in Europe traveling, they didn't get any letters from home and were feeling rather left out.  Finally, a letter from home.  (This is a long time ago, before email!).  Turns out that the post office had mailed the letter to Australia, where they have Kangaroos and Wallabies.  From then on, when addressing a letter or package to Ursi or her family we always write "Europe" at the end to be sure that it goes to the correct continent.

This was fun to quilt.  Just tight rows of stitching to give the effect of folded paper.  Like the Chinese paper lanterns that you'd hang outdoors.  Then leaves and vines in the background to remind them of their well loved garden.

Quilt for granddaughter Madeline by Kelly

 This is a different Kelly.  Sweet quilt for her granddaughter.  Start with a jelly roll, add one extra fabric, add a border.

Choose a lovely quilting design of clematis, and the perfect thread that repeats all the soft colors of the quilt, and someone is very lucky to get this special treat from her grandma.

Spring Flowers by Maria

I love pastels, and especially lavender.  Then you add the tulip blocks in the center, and pull it all from your stash.  Perfect!

Quilted with a pale green thread that matches the background leaves perfectly, although it reads as cream across most of the quilt.

Dresden Fan by Dee.

 My darling mother in law, Delores Stearns Durand, passed away in Jan. 2015.  She had hand pieced these lovely Dresden Plate blocks in approx. 2011, and after her passing, I inherited them with the intent to make them into a quilt top to give to her sister Joy Gay. 

The quilt finally made it to the top of the quilting queue, and it is now ready to go on to Hawaii where Joy lives.  I hope that it will provide some comfort to her to be wrapped up in a warm hug from her sister.

 

Fig Tree Quilt

Don't you just love the softness of the colors of this quilt? The pattern is by Fig Tree Designs, but I don't know the name of the quilt pattern. Laura chose to have leaves across the body of the quilt, and in the border, then a tight meander in the green border and setting pieces. Very nicely done, Laura!

Funny Bunnies

I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't keep up with the family blog like I should, and didn't realize that Katie was married, let alone pregnant with her first child until I got the baby shower announcement. Ooops! Quick, make a baby quilt and get if quilted even faster. I really like how it turned out though. I'd seen the bunny applique pattern in a magazine years ago, and then chose a block design that I thought went well with it. I used wool batting, and did my first attempt at trapunto behind the bunnies to give them more "fluff". I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

1st. Saturday, 2009

Here is Norma's version of the quilt from the Heart to Hand quilt shop, 1st Saturday club, 2009. Wendy and I chose the book "Better by the Dozen", and we all made the same 12 blocks, but chose our own colors, and settings for them. Norma did hers in oh so sweet 1930's prints, and set them with log cabins. Let me tell you, those are tiny little logs! I believe that this quilt is destined for some lucky person in her family, but I can't say who, that would spoil the surprise. Merry Christmas whoever you are!

Dresden Plates by Harriet

I love Dresden plates, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for all the work of appliqueing them. This is the second one I've done for Harriet, and her piecing is perfect. We did Baptist Fans on both of them, and they are both so soft and lovely.
