Trudy said that she had been working on this quilt for a long time, but I think it was well worth the wait.  Panels of teacups, mixed with beautifully pieced stars.

One for Ellie from me

I have actually never met Ellie.  She is the 11yo daughter of a friend of my friend/bike mechanic Brian.  Brian posted a fund raiser on facebook as Ellie is facing a heart transplant, and her family needs funds to live while they are in California waiting for her heart.

The quilt pattern is called "Good Fortune" and I don't even recall where I got it, it is so old.  But it was quick, scrappy, and something relatively non-de script for an unknown girl.  Hope she likes purples and pinks.

I realize that this only looks like 3 quilts, but I'm getting caught up.  Carol has 2 nieces, and they are getting nearly matching quilts.  They each get a "Hunter's star" quilt, and an panel quilt.  The colors are either pink and white, or purple and white.  What little girl doesn't like those colors?

And their panel quilts while having different panels are also in either pink or purple.  I love the idea of "wear an invisible crown"

Trying to show the detail of the quilting design, it's called "Cinderella", so there is a wand, pumpkin and of course slippers.

 

Twin "Hunter's Star" quilts from Carol

I think I want to be a relative of Carol.  The first quilt she brought me was an astounding double wedding ring, and she's made several since then.  This is one of 2 for her 2 nieces.

A quilt for "2nd mom" by Zoe

Zoe made this lovely quilt from fabrics she inherited from her mother.  It will be a gift for a former or current neighbor who was like a 2nd mom to Zoe.
  I love the pinks and greens.  Quilted with "Curly Swirly" as loosely as possible per Zoe's request.  So lovely.

Scott and his
husband live in an RV and work as camp hosts at various state campgrounds.   So imagine piecing a quilt in your RV, and then doing such precision work!

"Still Flocking After all these Years" by me

This quilt requires a bit of explanation for my focus fabric choice.  My brother Joe is also my "cycling buddy", and he is the one who started me wearing unusual tights for biking (Joe's motto.  "Why go for plain when you can wear flamingos!")  So, each time we go to a quilt shop, I've got to search for flamingo prints to use for "someday."  

"Someday" finally arrived on New Year's day 2021 when Mystery Quilts Anonymous hosted a New Years day mystery quilt.  We were supposed to be able to piece the entire quilt top that day.  Well not so much for me.  Took me many days, and then even longer to get the quilting done.  But I had such a good time! 

Several prints in the flamingos, but a the secondary colors were consistent throughout.The corner flamingos resulted in my not taking time to read up on how to make mitered borders, so of course they were too short.  But, having this wonderful large print worked beautifully  The quilt had to keep growing to make it the size of a California King bed with drop on the sides.  Ended up at 117" square.  The birds in the borders are all facing the top.  I was at least careful there!

How to quilt this was also the challenge.  Once I settled on the "feather theme" (since flamingos have lots of feathers), the worst part was remembering what type of feather went where.  And being sure to use the correct thread color.  At one point, I had 3 bright green sticky notes on my machine, and on the quilt top as reminders.  They didn't even always work!

The backing is a slightly mottled grey, something that would allow the quilting to show.  Wool batting to give it loft and warmth.

Dang!  I just now noticed the mistake!  Oh well.

I love the pattern, but my color choices are "Interesting".  My usual scrappy quilts, and when you look closely, some of the fabrics are probably not the greatest choices.  Oh well, cop quilt.

Frankly, I'm more excited about the quilting.  All done on my computerized machine,  I've been doing only edge to edge, but why waste the tools that I've got at my fingertips?  So, this was a practice one.

The thread is pink, so hard to see, but each different block is quilted slightly differently.

 The quilting shows up much better on the back.  Now if I'd only gone for a 12' table for Lenni, I could do larger quilts!  Oh well, live and learn.

"Glamping" by Natalie

 I asked Natalie and her daughters if they like to camp, and her response was that they are more "glampers".   Sweet fabrics with lots of fun little trailers.  Also quilted with Heart links quilting design.

"Unicorn" by Xande

 Okay, so the pink animal in the center of the quilt is a zebra, but since it's pink, my mind thinks it's a unicorn.  This quilt is for her niece who loves pink, hence the pink zebra.

and of course Giraffe.  Love the paper piecing, glad I don't have to do it!  Quilted with hearts in hot pink for the niece's favorite color.

Dagmar has been busy!

 This one is called "Pink, blue and green for niece."  Pretty! 

I love the border fabric.  It looks like beads on string.

It's almost time for Halloween!  Quilted with bright orange thread and the Kitty Kat panto.  I was king of hoping for bright green, but it's Dagmar's quilt, she gets to choose.

Diamonds in the Rough by me

This is another quilt from the facebook group "Mystery Quilts Anonymous".  I chose the pink and brown color scheme because I had a cone of thread in those colors that I wanted to use to quilt it. 

 All fabrics pulled from my stash, and I was short using the same background fabric throughout by about 6" total.  Oh well.  That adds to the fun.

As usual, a cop quilt, and the old adage of "never a cop when you need one" holds true.  Although for a much more fun reason.  I had this in the car for 5 days.  (Granted, I only drove 2 of those days).  No police officers in sight!  On Monday, during a long bike ride, I believe I passed at least 6 police cruisers, but of course, had no quilt with me.  Finally, just starting to pull into my driveway at the end of the day, here comes one down my street.  Waved him over, and explained that all was well, and the rest of the story.  Watching his face brighten when he heard the story of the quilt, and how being able to give him this made my day, made me feel that much happier. 

A huge thanks to the facebook group that supports these quilts, and to my friend Cathy for introducing me to them.  By the way, I currently have 3 quilts from this group in varying stages.  2 are donations, and one is for my bed because after 15 years or so, there's a hole in mine.

Pink Elephants by Sharyle

Sharyle must have a very large extended family because they all seem to be having babies.  Lucky little girl to get this sweet one.  They are also of Irish descent, so had to have a shamrock and green ears on one. Quilted wth hearts and stars to go with the applique theme.
