"Wall Hanging" by Leigh

Leigh tells me that she has a new favorite designer, but didn't tell me their name.  Guess I'd better get that.  Leigh's only complaint is that the patterns make small quilts, but she thinks she's got an idea to make them larger.  Based on the photo below with the dime for comparison, I can't imagine!

Those little tiny embroidery stitches to get the "fluff" on the flowers astound me.

 

Wool Applique by Marlene

I think that the green sashing in this quilt may be silk.  It kind of has that feel to it.  All hand appliqued and embroidered.    Wow.

 

Hand pieced on a fabric foundation Tumbling Blocks

I would love to know the history of this quilt.  I think that Marlene may have gotten it from a thrift store, but I'm not positive.  All of the fabrics in the top are wool, and then it was hand pieced onto a fabric foundation.  There are even several "make do" blocks, the ones where you piece smaller pieces together to get enough large enough for your patch

Marlene didn't specify how to quilt this, essentially she told me to "Let my creative juices flow."  I went with piano keys in the border to keep things straight, feathers in the red border, and then continuous curves in the blocks.  They were a bit wonky, and thick seams at times, so this worked well to nail everything down.  As in the photo below, some of the pieces had seen better days, but I hope that this will give the quilt new life.

 

"Meander" by Mary Beth for her son

As usual, my photography skills do not do justice to the quilt.  All done in deep navy blue and reds.  Also make entirely with wool quilt, including the batting and binding.  This is going to be one HOT quilt!

 The backing is a deep red with a wonderful nubby texture to it.  As always, Mary Beth does glorious work.

"Dog Days of Summer" and "Flowers in Pots" by Leigh

Leigh and her amazing hand work does it again.  My thought process whenever I start one of Leigh's quilts goes like this "Oh Leigh.  What am I going to do?  I have no idea.  You told me to play.  This is going to take forever!"  That lasts for about 3 min., then I get started, and the next thing I know, the whole quilt is quilted, and I wish there was more to do!  Okay, the dogs were easy.  Hearts and "dog words".  i.e. bark, woof, treat.

The flowers needed a bit more, because I wanted to use a different background fill in each one.  So, I've got photos of my favorites.
