"Asian fabrics for Michael"
"It all started with a panel..." by Melissa
After starting to quilt this quilt, this seemed to be the perfect name for it. Not sure if there was a commercial pattern, or if it was something that Melissa and her husband designed together. Regardless, lovely quilt. Quilted with 2 layers of wool batt, and simple pond water meander free hand quilting.
Yakata fabric quilt by Carla
I was hoping that the Eastern Garden Ginko pattern would show more in the photo.
"Asian Fans" by Sue
"Asian Bars" by Carla
I think these fabrics may be vintage. A few were repaired carefully, and a joy to quilt with.
"Gingko Leaves in red and black" by Carla
"Yukata" fabrics from Carla
Dresden Fans by Pat
I think I want to be related to Pat. This is for a cousin, that I believe she only recently met! |
Repeat the same background loop in the rest solid blocks, only looser, making the quilt softer. SID on all the sashing strips and cornerstones.
Blue Pagodas bed runner for Laurie
Rail Fence in Asian fabrics by Ann
I believe that this one goes to Ann's son, but may be mistaken on that.
Heart in black and white by Pat
Since the prints are so busy, you can't see the quilting, even though Pat chose a thread called "Aquamarine". Goes great with the teal in the quilt top. So, why not have it show on the backing? It's "Sushi" . One of those pantos that I purchased because it was fun, but never had the right quilt for it. This quilt was perfect for this panto!
Convergence by Judy
This is small wall hanging that Judy made. I've never made a convergence quilt, but they are really cool. I won't even try to describe the process, you can do a google search for that yourself.
Quilted with the Oriental Clouds panto and Glide "Military Gold" thread. Lovely choices Judy!

Asian Squares by Michael
This is another on of those quilts that you don't realize how cool it is until you hang it up to take a photo. I hadn't noticed the darker sashing on the center squares until then.
Log Cabins by Meredith
You just never know where you are going to meet a new friend. I was out on a bike ride with friends, in the absolutely pouring down rain. I'm talking about wringing out your gloves when you stop! Meredith said "Beth, I hear you are a quilter too." and that was pretty much the end of that bike ride. We gave up on riding in the rain, turned around and went back and had coffee and talked for an hour or so.
This lovely Log Cabin quilt is destined for a baby of a co-worker of Meredith. Lucky baby! I surely enjoyed quilting this quilt, but I think it may have been my one and only to do for Meredith. She says already that she knows that there is a longarm quilting machine in her future.
Asian French Braid

I know, this quilt looks awfully long and narrow. That's because it's designed to drape over a fainting couch to keep the dogs from getting hair all over the upholstery. Easier to was a quilt than to clean the couch. I can't believe that they had enough fabrics in their stash to make an entire quilt. I've got an extensive stash, but mine would probably end up being a lot scrappier and not nearly so organized as theirs. I'm sure the pups will love to have a place to leave their soft fur without too much consequences.

Sharyle's Butterflies

Sharyle is such a precise piecer, I'm in envy of her. This is a baby quilt that will be traveling to Japan with it's owner to be born. Sharyle used a lot of Asian fabrics, and then I quilted it with a design called "Sashiko" which is a traditional Japanese type of stitching. Doesn't look anything like this, but that's what the design is called. We chose a Rainbows thread that picked up all the colors in the quilt top. Great job Sharyle.
