"Asian fabrics for Michael"

Pat is one of the most giving people I know.  This quilt is for a former student of hers that she keeps in contact with.  He is going through some hard times, and Pat decided that he needed a quilt, so she whipped this out for him.  Lovely Asian fabrics and a pattern that she had used and enjoyed before.
Quilted with the Asian Flow panto and I believe Butterscotch thread, so a soft gold.  A little color, but mostly texture.    I hope things get better for Michael soon.

"It all started with a panel..." by Melissa

After starting to quilt this quilt, this seemed to be the perfect name for it.  Not sure if there was a commercial pattern, or if it was something that Melissa and her husband designed together.  Regardless, lovely quilt.  Quilted with 2 layers of wool batt, and simple pond water meander free hand quilting.

The quilt is 106.25x111", so far to large to hang up an photogrph.  Here it is on my queen bed.

Some larger blocks, surrounded by squares, and even some really big flying geese blocks.  Well done to the desingers.

"Asian Fans" by Sue

What a lovely quilt, although the red border reads as more orange in the photo.  The piecing makes such a pretty lattice design across the quilt.

"Asian Bars" by Carla

Dear Carla for trusting me enough to just drop this off with my husband when I was recovering from a migraine.  I think her notes in Randall's handwriting here 'Gingko leaves again and thread to match."  A few more questions from email, and here is a lovely quilt for her.  The fabrics are a very dark blue, and then a dark blue thread for quilting.

I think these fabrics may be vintage.  A few were repaired carefully, and a joy to quilt with.

"Gingko Leaves in red and black" by Carla

This is the backing of her quilt.  Just as lovely as the front!

"Yukata" fabrics from Carla

I had never heard of Yukata fabrics before, but they are very lightweight cotton, usually used to make summer Kimonos in Japan.

White backgrounds with indigo blue dye on all, and various Asian motifs.  Very pretty.  Quilted with Gingko leaves panto

Dresden Fans by Pat

I think I want to be related to Pat.  This is for a cousin, that I believe she only recently met!
All of the fans are hand appliqued with thread that matches them  Imagine changing needles to applique these points down every couple of inches.  Outlined in the blades of the fans, then a tight loop background fill.

Repeat the same background loop in the rest solid blocks, only looser, making the quilt softer.  SID on all the sashing strips and cornerstones.

Blue Pagodas bed runner for Laurie

Laurie brought me 4 fabrics to cut up into squares and make into a pretty table runner.  She had marked the scenes that she wanted fussy cut, so then I got to do the fun part of assembly!

Rail Fence in Asian fabrics by Ann

I love this quilt.  I love Asian fabrics, but never seem to use them.   Simply quilted with the "Oriental Clouds" panto, and thread that just about perfectly matches the background.  This was you get texture but not in your face "look at the quilting."

I believe that this one goes to Ann's son, but may be mistaken on that.

Heart in black and white by Pat

Bargello quilts are always fun, and I love the heart that this quilt is made up of.  I particularly like how the red heart is off set.  Much more interesting than it would have been to have it centered.  Great idea Pat.

Since the prints are so busy, you can't see the quilting, even though Pat chose a thread called "Aquamarine".  Goes great with the teal in the quilt top.  So, why not have it show on the backing?  It's "Sushi" .  One of those pantos that I purchased because it was fun, but never had the right quilt for it.  This quilt was perfect for this panto!

Convergence by Judy

This is small  wall hanging that Judy made.  I've never made a convergence quilt, but they are really cool.  I won't even try to describe the process, you can do a google search for that yourself.

Quilted with the Oriental Clouds panto and Glide "Military Gold" thread.  Lovely choices Judy!

Asian Squares by Michael

This is another on of those quilts that you don't realize how cool it is until you hang it up to take a photo.  I hadn't noticed the darker sashing on the center squares until then.

Log Cabins by Meredith

You just never know where you are going to meet a new friend.  I was out on a bike ride with friends, in the absolutely pouring down rain.  I'm talking about wringing out your gloves when you stop!  Meredith said "Beth, I hear you are a quilter too." and that was pretty much the end of that bike ride.  We gave up on riding in the rain, turned around and went back and had coffee and talked for an hour or so.

This lovely Log Cabin quilt is destined for a baby of a co-worker of Meredith.  Lucky baby!  I surely enjoyed quilting this quilt, but I think it may have been my one and only to do for Meredith.  She says already that she knows that there is a longarm quilting machine in her future.

Asian French Braid

I know, this quilt looks awfully long and narrow. That's because it's designed to drape over a fainting couch to keep the dogs from getting hair all over the upholstery. Easier to was a quilt than to clean the couch. I can't believe that they had enough fabrics in their stash to make an entire quilt. I've got an extensive stash, but mine would probably end up being a lot scrappier and not nearly so organized as theirs. I'm sure the pups will love to have a place to leave their soft fur without too much consequences.

Asian Dragon

Grace goes in spurts for her quilts. I don't hear from her for months, then she arrives with 5 quilts at a time that need to be quilted. All beautifully pieced, I might add. This one is a collection of Asian fabrics, and she chose the Asian dragon panto for it. I think it's perfect.

Sharyle's Butterflies

Sharyle is such a precise piecer, I'm in envy of her. This is a baby quilt that will be traveling to Japan with it's owner to be born. Sharyle used a lot of Asian fabrics, and then I quilted it with a design called "Sashiko" which is a traditional Japanese type of stitching. Doesn't look anything like this, but that's what the design is called. We chose a Rainbows thread that picked up all the colors in the quilt top. Great job Sharyle.

Asian Dragon

Here's the Asian Dragon panto that I used on Lisa and Rachel's Japan mystery quilt. Difficult to see on a busy print, but still a really fun design

Japan mystery

Here's a Japanese mystery quilt made by Lisa and Rachel. Sorry, I don't know who was the piecer. The front of the quilt is made up of Asian prints that were part of the kit from Heart to Hand. For the backing they chose a cream and green Poinsettia print. If you look carefully, and know what you are looking for, the top left photo shows the Asian Dragon panto design in the quilting. You really have to know what you are looking for though.
