There's a new baby in our neighborhood!

One of our many delightful neighbors has just welcomed a new baby girl to their family, so a quilt was needed.  I've had a urge to work with my 1930's prints, so pulled these from the stash.  Just something simple for the baby.

3 from me

I'd rather be quilting, bike riding, piecing, so I'm doing mine in a bunch.  The top on "Thank You for Your Service" will be a cop quilt.  My dear friend Judith is the mother of Tom who was killed in the line of duty.  She is having a birthday next month, and we're going to have as many "co9p quilts" as I can get finished on a table for the guests to take and give to a police officer in their area.  The fabrics fro this quilt were given to me by Judith after another friend of hers started to downsize.  All these lovely squares of fabric, cut out and ready to be sewn into a quilt top.  I simply alternated red and blue.

"Welcome Home" is for your newer neighbors  Their home is the first home that they have purchased, and they are expecting a baby girl next month, so obviously, I got to make a quilt!  Fun to shop my stash, but also to get the perfect house fabric for the background.  Quilted with "Ginger Flower" design so that the baby can always have flowers.

Flannel stars by Michael

Here's a sweet baby quilt done in flannel for a friend of Michael's new baby.
 Quilted with loopy hearts

Molly's baby clothes

Isn't this a sweet idea?  Leigh took her granddaughter's baby clothes, and made a quilt out of them!
I don't know why but this rainbow striped onsie makes me happy to just to look at it!

"Baby Bliss" by Maria

Here is Maria's second quilt of this batch.  Baby Bliss is for a friend's baby.  Lucky little kiddo!  Such soft colors with a cream background.
A somewhat Celtic Knot in the setting squares.
Outline of the bowtie shape in the pieced blocks.  Hardest part?  Making sure I didn't over or undershoot the line on the ties.

Owls by Pat.

I love how Pat fussy cut the owls and then alternated the two different owls in the quilt.

Quilted with the Owls pantograph, but really hard to see.  If you look at the above photo, top right corner, and squint, you can sort of see the owl that's quilted in there.  Lucky baby to get this quilt.

2 quilts by Sylvia

Sylvia and her husband are snowbirds, so they live in their RV in Oregon in the summer, and then back to Arizona for the winters. I can't imagine creating so many fun quilts in such a small space, but she makes it work.
This is a pink flannel quilt and it's quilted with ginkgo leaves.

This one is the same pattern done in greens and browns and salmon pinks. I think it gives it a completely different look with the different colorway. This one was quilted with vines and leaves. See you in the spring Sylvia! Keep on quilting!

"Joan's baby quilt"

The baby was born in January, 2010, but the quilt is not quite ready for her at this time. Isn't it sweet? Pinks and browns and lots of great dots and circles. And Joan's signature color, lime green. Quilted with Rainbows thread in pinks and browns too. The thread was a perfect choice for it. What a lucky little girl, and I think well worth the wait.

Sharyle's Butterflies

Sharyle is such a precise piecer, I'm in envy of her. This is a baby quilt that will be traveling to Japan with it's owner to be born. Sharyle used a lot of Asian fabrics, and then I quilted it with a design called "Sashiko" which is a traditional Japanese type of stitching. Doesn't look anything like this, but that's what the design is called. We chose a Rainbows thread that picked up all the colors in the quilt top. Great job Sharyle.

Baby quilt for Melissa's baby

The baby's name has not been announced yet, so she remains "Melissa's baby". The quilt is a simple rail fence block, set on point and then quilted with a pattern called "Clematis", and the quilting thread is called "Wisteria Lane". I thought both were appropriate since Melissa is a horticultural therapist. Done in shades of lavender and greens.

Baby quilt by Mary M.

The baby's are coming! Actually, they seem to be all arrived. Not multiple births, but lots of women making lovely baby quilts. This is Mary's version, done in blues and greens. So sweet! She appliqued a few birds, and pieced several different block designs. She chose and all over design of a swirling meander in my "Lime Squeeze" from Rainbows. Probably my favorite color of this type of thread.

Joan's latest baby quilt

Joan does love her lime green. There's a new baby in her family, born on April 1, 2010, and a lucky little girl is going to receive this quilt. We also used Joan's favorite thread, or at least her most popular choice, Rainbows "Lime Squeeze", and did a Flora and Fauna meander for the quilting design.

"Fascinated by Monet"

After my dear friend Wendy passed away, I learned that Dennis and Carolyn were expecting their first grandchild in June, 2010. They told me that Wendy had planned on making a quilt for the baby, but it just didn't happen. Needless to say, this meant that I needed to finish this up for her. Choosing the pattern was obvious, it needed to be one of Wendy's designs, and I love her Monet quilt in it's many varieties. The backing was also easy, I've loved this fabric with Wendy's "Weeble" dog on it since it arrived at the shop. My friend Rachel helped me choose the fabrics for the top, again choosing some of my favorite fabrics that hadn't yet made it into my stash. Below is the picture of Weeble on the fabric, and the label. The label reads "Fascinated by Monet" Designed by Wendy Ann Wood, pieced and quilted in her honor by Elizabeth T. Durand. The quilting design is on of my favorites, "Swirls" and we used variegated thread in the top.

Dogs!

Alice brought me these really fun dog quilts to quilt. The first is a panel for a wall hanging. She chose a quilting design that resembles a jigsaw puzzle. I hope that I've learned my lesson about tracing the design with my finger to make sure I know how it works before I start to quilt it after this quilt.

The second quilt will be for the baby. The dogs are similar to the panel, but cut apart to make a much larger quilt. Also, the quilting design is different, a pantograph called "Flopsy" with dogs running, dog paws and other doggie stuff. Just a really fun quilting design.

"Charming Baby"

This is one of the last quilts that Wendy pieced. The pattern is called "Charming Baby", and it's from Whistle Pig Creek Quilts. The "charming" part is that you use a charm pack, or a group of fabrics that are pre-cut into 5" squares. I love the three dimensional effect that the pinwheels create.
