Two Bow Tie Quilts by me.

Babies galore!  My great niece Juni will soon be a Big Sister to Brother "Bean".  His in utero name, and Juni was called "Sprout" until she arrived in the world.
Fabrics are all hand dyed by me and some came from my stash of previous projects.

My darling neighbors Julia and Pete and Big Sister Indie are going to have a new baby boy.  I'd had so much fun making Beans quilt that I used the same fabrics for the blocks and dyed a slightly darker shade of blue for the background.  Can't wait to meet him!

"Bow Ties for Bean"

"Bean" if the in utero name of my future great nephew..  (His older sister was known as "Sprout" until she arrived)

We know that he is a boy, and I decided that he needed some Bow Ties.  All the fabrics are hand dyed by me, and that was the most fun!  Taking a plain white fabric and making it come out a completely different color and sometimes with a great print where the dye didn't take.  Not to mention all the gradations in the colors since they are done by hand.  Quilted with a design called "Bean Sprout", because what else could I possibly use?

"Fugarwe?" by me

Because what else do you do when you go on a cycling vacation around Lake Ontario, but try to find as man fabric stores as you can?   Then you look for the fabrics that are special or remind you of things you saw or did on the trip.
The pattern of the quilt is called "Kings Crown", so I quilted the "crown" piecing with a crown design freehand.

So, we have a piece from the Canada panel to indicate that we biked across the border a total of 4 times.  (Twice in one day just because we could while we were at Niagara Falls.  And we can now say that we have "crossed the Rainbow Bridge" on bikes!)
Beer can lids and wine labels because alcohol was an important part of the end of every day.  Clearly, we needed water fabric to represent Lake Ontario, and the falls, and the blue with bike gears because Xande and I didn't have anything like that in our stash.
The key fabric is in honor of darling brother Joe who got up one morning and unlocked the sag vehicle to load up suitcases.  Then kept the keys and started to ride.  Got a call about 2 hours in from our sag driver, Becky, wondering where the keys might be.  Sure enough!  Joe's jersey pocket!  He got extra miles that day riding back to our AirB&B, but then rode with Becky to where he had turned around.  I know that we are competitive for miles, but this is ridiculous!

And found a crown motif to quilt in the empty spaces in the blocks for Joe
Considering there are at least 2 fabrics about beer, and one for wine, there was a LOT of dirnking.  But there's also coffee represented twice.
Yes, those are "Buffalo wings" on the fabric in the square.  Also ice cream, although gelato was the preferred snack for the afternoon.  On the last day, we rode up and over the Berkshires on our last day.  Joe's phone app shows a mild elevation gain, and about a total of 60 miles round trip.   We should have looked at Beth's app, because mine showed some serious climbing.  But since Beth can't be trusted when it comes to navigation, we went with Joe's.  FINALLY got over the border, and found the quilt shop.  Then we called Xande for a ride home.  But I had to get the fabric representative of New England, even if I can't find anything about Massachusetts on what I included in teh quilt
The computer cords are to represent "The charging station" that Xande brought.  One plug into the wall, and then about 14 different places for us to charge phones, bike computers and lights.  One of the first  to get unpacked each night.  Also, cobblestones for when we were in town and above, the pebbles are for the "stone dust" along the Eerie Canal.  Essentially really hard packed sand.  Not difficult to ride on, but you wouldn't want a steady diet of it.

I found a couple of pieces of Sesame Street prints  Since Joe brought along 3 of his many Sesame Street jerseys, those had to be included.  The green and orange....  The green started when I found a large piece of it on clearance at our first stop.  I say that's Joe's favorite color is green, he corrected me that it is "Flourescent"   So, the green and the orange are to replicate the colors in his new bike.

"Welcome to the Flock" by me

For anyone who doesn't yeet know, my biking friends and I refer to ourselves as "the flock" for our fascination with flamingo tights.  When my newest great niece was born, she got a quilt, but then I found this pattern in my collection and HAD to make it

The blue fabric is some of my hand dyed fabrics, and of course, I quilted it with and edge to edge design of flamingos!

"Keep The Home Fires Burning" by me. and Miscalulation 1

This is a pattern from McCalls quilting magazine from Jan/Feb 2023.  I love looking at quilt magazines, but don't usually make the design.  This one just spoke to me.   Since I'm famous for my lack of math skills (along with my lack of sense of direction), I way over cut fabrics for this quilt, and made a second quilt out of it's leftovers.   Although that quilt is finished and ready for donating, I've lost it's photos.  Time to find those and get them up here too

This quilt was a stash buster in that everything came from my stash, including the pieced backing and the pieced batting.  We all end up with small bits of batting, and I store mine for future use.  This quilt probably has about 6-7 different pieces of cotton batting in it.  Finally made a dent in that pile at least!
Even a scrappy binding from leftovers of those that were already made.

"Mother Hen" by me

Several friends or family members are going to have new babies soon, and this for one of those babies.  The block is called "Hen and Chicks" and grandma of the baby says that mom likes "green and pink".  The green and the backing are two of my hand dyed fabrics.  I love to see what a white tone on tone fabric will result in once dyed.  The block fabrics are from my stash.  Such fun to pull them out.

"Bike Love" by me

When I was in high school, we hosted several foreign exchange students, and although my family didn't directly host Ursi, she and her host brothers are my "other siblings".
We've stayed in touch all these years, I went to her wedding, she came to ours.  So, when we decided to ride the Danube Trail from Passau, Germany to Budapest, Hungary, clearly we'd be visiting her.  So, she needed a quilt!  Last time I made her one was I don't know how many years ago.  Fabrics are leftover white for the background, some red and white birds with hearts for wings, then quilted with a bike design.  SMF!  (So much Fun!) an acronym my brother and I used during our ride.

Some from me.

Nothing like going to see your doctor (who is a delight) and finding that she is several months pregnant.  Well clearly, you need to make a quilt for the baby!  This is simply leftover waste corners from another quilt that I recently finished.  Throw it together, bind and drop off.  Received a lovely thank you note from her as well.
Then, the day that you are returning from vacation your darling neighbors are moving to Amsterdam for at least a year.  Clearly they need something to remind them of their home in our neighborhood, so this is done to represent the colors of their house.  She's also the one who introduced me to ice dying, so all of the fabrics are dyed.

Photo dump of my quilts

Here's a bunch of my quilts.  My friend is having a significant birthday next month, so I am "gifting" a stack of quilts to her party for people to take and give to police officers in their area.  She is the mom of Tom, so this is in support of her, as well as Tom.
This one is called "Child's Play", from mystery quilts anonymous (MQA) Since it's child's play, I chose a quilting design that kids could look for things.  This is the Rainforest set, so all kinds of animals and birds.  Black backing and gold thread so that it would show, doesn't photograph accurately.

Japanese Mystery from Heart to Hand.  This is a really old quilt top that I've been waiting to quilt "until I'm good enough."  Well pooh on that, just finish it!  All computerized, and designs placed in the squares and triangles.  I would much prefer edge to edge on computer, I don't like having to reposition all the time.  Good learning for me though.

Sadly, this is called "Forgotten mystery" from MQA because I don't recall the name of the pattern.  Then when I had it totally quilted and bound, I found the huge mistake in the left corner.  Oops.  Someone will hopefully not care too much.  Quilted with City of Light panto

Eye Spy.  We all have that stack of 5" squares.  Well I finally put them to use.  A bunch of leftover small orange squares too, so there was my sashing and cornerstones."To Celebrate this Day" a wedding gift for my friend's daughter.  The pattern is really "Attic Stars" from MQA, but I've called mine something more fitting for the recipient.  All hand dyed fabrics, and so much fun!  The dark purple is Imperial purple, Bubble gum for the pink and Parakeet for the background.  All hand quided heirloom quilting.

The backing is Mist Grey dye.  I'm loving hand dying fabrics!

3 from me

I'd rather be quilting, bike riding, piecing, so I'm doing mine in a bunch.  The top on "Thank You for Your Service" will be a cop quilt.  My dear friend Judith is the mother of Tom who was killed in the line of duty.  She is having a birthday next month, and we're going to have as many "co9p quilts" as I can get finished on a table for the guests to take and give to a police officer in their area.  The fabrics fro this quilt were given to me by Judith after another friend of hers started to downsize.  All these lovely squares of fabric, cut out and ready to be sewn into a quilt top.  I simply alternated red and blue.

"Welcome Home" is for your newer neighbors  Their home is the first home that they have purchased, and they are expecting a baby girl next month, so obviously, I got to make a quilt!  Fun to shop my stash, but also to get the perfect house fabric for the background.  Quilted with "Ginger Flower" design so that the baby can always have flowers.

"Log Cabin Stars" by me"

This is another quilt from the group "Mystery Quilts Anonymous"  Since most of my quilts are for donation, I usually make them scrappy.  Sometimes they turn out great, others I king of think "What was I thinking?"  This one probably falls some where in between.  I sill like it though.

Quilted in gold thread with a piece of black backing the magically appeared.  The panto is called "Jim's Stars and Stripes".  The quilt is currently in the car waiting a chance to find a police officer to give it to.

"North Stars" by me

This quilt has a story.  Michael brought me his version of this quilt to quilt and I loved the pattern.  Never seen an Elizabeth Hartman quilt that I wanted to do before, but this one called me.  So, this quilt is "Michael's fault"
Narwhal.  I had to research how to quilt his tusk, and learned a few other things.  Great fun to quilt his tusk though.  I think that's my favorite block.

Polar bear. Lot's of fur quilting in this quilt.

Owl.  If you've seen this quilt, you'll notice my mistake in his feathers.  If you're not familiar with the pattern, this is how it is supposed to be.

Musk Ox.  Maybe this is my favorite block?  Doing "curly hair" was great fun to quilt,  as well as his horns.

Seal.  I still think he needs something at the top of his head so it's not so square.

Sea Otters.  They have little pebbeled bits on the pads of their paws.

Deer
Foxes which is certainly my favorite to have pieced.  I also love the whiskers that I quilted on them.
