"Keep The Home Fires Burning" by me. and Miscalulation 1

This is a pattern from McCalls quilting magazine from Jan/Feb 2023. I love looking at quilt magazines, but don't usually make the design. This one just spoke to me. Since I'm famous for my lack of math skills (along with my lack of sense of direction), I way over cut fabrics for this quilt, and made a second quilt out of it's leftovers. Although that quilt is finished and ready for donating, I've lost it's photos. Time to find those and get them up here too

This quilt was a stash buster in that everything came from my stash, including the pieced backing and the pieced batting. We all end up with small bits of batting, and I store mine for future use. This quilt probably has about 6-7 different pieces of cotton batting in it. Finally made a dent in that pile at least!
Even a scrappy binding from leftovers of those that were already made.

The second quilt here is called "Miscalculation #1" I have decided to have a new category of quilts for when I cut incorrectly, and have all those leftover not quite orphan blocks, but enough scraps to make a quilt. The red strips or the off cuts from the heart block in the original, and the rest is where I simply can't count correctly, or read the pattern correctly. Regardless, I had a good time putting it together and then quilting it with lots of different quilting designs as a chance to play.

Vickie is another person who loves a technique that I think she must be nuts to engage in. I can't imagine doing this much embroidery by hand, let alone multiple quilts!

This is at least the 2nd of Vickie's quilts and she is working on another . Watch this space for more

"Happy puppies" byt Susan

These truly are "happy puppies". Look at those grins!

Quilted in bright orange thread with the Woof panto. Perfect for some future child.

"Mother Hen" by me

Several friends or family members are going to have new babies soon, and this for one of those babies. The block is called "Hen and Chicks" and grandma of the baby says that mom likes "green and pink". The green and the backing are two of my hand dyed fabrics. I love to see what a white tone on tone fabric will result in once dyed. The block fabrics are from my stash. Such fun to pull them out.

The most recent Horse quilt from Mary Beth

Two horse quilts completed and both used the same "Horse Profile" quilting design. Although it shows better on this quilt. Not what Mary Beth wanted to make, but what the recipients wanted.

Vintage DWR for Patty's daughter

What a lovely tradition. As each child gets married, they get to choose a quilt top from "grandma Cora" that she pieced. This is the one that the most recent bride to be has chosen.

All hand pieced, circa 1960"s, but I think some of the fabrics are older than that. As you can see in the "before" photos, there are a few issues.

Yes, that's a dime for size comparison.

However, with wool batting and lots of quilting, we were able to get most of the wrinkles to lay down

This is a "Cathedral Window" quilt. The center blocks are usually pieced by hand due to the folded land layered parts. Quite amazing.

Sue asked that I leave the center Cathedral Windows un quilted, and I was happy to do so. There's no way I could have gotten my machine to go through all those layers, not to mention catching my hopping foot on all the lovely dimensional parts.

I am not a big drinker, and thought that Crown Royal Royal bags only came in the traditional purple flannel. Shows what I know. Orange, brown, green and purple. All painstakingly cut down to make this quilt.

A Quilt of Valor for Gerry's relative, but I can't recall if it is son or son in law.

Regardless of the correct recipient for this quilt, thank you for your service. Clearly, Gerry started with the panel on this, and then beautifully pieced some small stars on the borders

I didn't quilt much in the panel, just enough to hold it together and add a few details.

"Horse #1" and "Window Cats" by Mary Beth

this is "Horse #1, because there is a 2nd similar horse quilt on it's way. It will be quilted with the same "Horse profile" design as below. This is not a design that Mary Beth would have made, but "It's what they wanted" for the recipients.

This fabric is actually black, but came out this color only in the photo. Trying to show the outline of the horse profile.

"Window Cats" is the name of the quilting design, and it seemed an appropriate quilt name as well. 5 different cat fabrics and quilted with this darling design

Most recent one from Zoe

I'm simply calling this one "Rectangles" for obvious reasons. I believe that this will be a donation quilt, designed more for a boy in mind.

Zoe has been busy. She dropped off 4 quilts, and 3 are ready to be posted. I'm going to bind the last one, so it's not been photographed yet. Watch this space for that one.

This is called by the two of us "Asian Florida". Many of the fabrics in it look Asian to me, but there is at least one fabric with Manatees, so the Florida part. Quilted with "Double Scallop"

"Retro Metro" also quilted with the Double Scallop design. The green in the top photo is a much better representation of the background color

And finally "Strings'. I'll have to think about my next string quilt and using larger blocks. I also love how they almost make a "V" shape from bottom to top.

Kathy is planning ahead for future grandchildren.

This started as a panel and she added frames to make it even cuter.

"La Petite Baguette" by me

So many of my friends and relations are having grand-babies this year! This one is completed first, even though the baby is not to arrive until August because "grand-mere to be" will be traveling to Paris (where the baby will live) in April. My friend Xande didn't think she'd ever have grandkids, so to hear that her daughter was expecting was a wonderful surprise. Never having met the parents, I only know that they like blue and orange, and Paris. I found a pattern in a a magazine that I enjoyed, and here it is. Since Xande is my "biking buddy", I looked through my collection of bike fabrics and that's where most of these came from.

The baby's "in utero" name is "La Petite Baguette", so that's where the name of the quilt comes from.
